John Wheeler Moore Sr. (October 23, 1833– December 6, 1906) was a lawyer, politician, historian, and author in North Carolina. His history of North Carolina was used as a school textbook. It was partisan and criticized Republicans. The state legislature voted to stop using it in the 1890s when Republicans and their Fusionist allies held a majority.[1] He was a Democrat.[2]
He was born on his father Godwin Cotton Moore's plantation known as Mulberry Grove. John Wheeler Moore attended Buckhorn Academy and the University of North Carolina. He married Ann James Ward and they had 12 children.[2]
