An active studio musician, Estes has recorded with Dolly Parton, Robyn Hitchcock,[2] John Paul White,[3] Kacey Musgraves[4], Langhorne Slim,[5] Abigail Washburn,[6] Joss Stone,[7] Steelism,[8] Peter Bradley Adams,[4] Rodney Crowell,[4] GAYLE,[4] Andrew Leahey,[9] Duane Eddy,[4] Joss Stone,[4] Brendan Benson,[4] Kashena Sampson,[10] Griffin Anthony,[11] and others.
In 2017, Estes recorded on Kesha's Grammy-nominated[12] album Rainbow, including the song "Old Flames (Can't Hold a Candle to You)" (featuring Dolly Parton).
Estes has released 2 solo albums as an artist for Ear Up Records, a record label started by Dave Matthews Band saxophonist Jeff Coffin.[1]

Estes is married to violinist Elizabeth Estes, with whom he has one daughter, Ivy.[1]
