Joydeb Roaja (born 1973, Khagrachori, Chittagong) is a dynamic artist known for his painting and performance. He completed his M.F.A. in painting from Chittagong University in 1999. Currently residing and working in Chittagong, Bangladesh, Roaja is recognized for his influence by hill tracts life, Indigenous culture, and nature in his artworks. He is the Vice Chairman of Porapara Space For Artists and General Secretary of Hill Artist Group.[1][2]

Born in 1973 in Khagrachori, Chittagong, Joydeb Roaja grew up in a rural hilly land that significantly shaped his artistic perspective.[2]

Roaja completed his Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in painting from Chittagong University in 1999, showcasing early commitment to his artistic journey.[3][4]

Recognition and Achievements[edit]
In 2005, Joydeb Roaja was awarded an artist residency at Thirtha, Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has also held positions such as Vice Chairman of Porapara Space For Artists and General Secretary of Hill Artist Group.[11] "The Right to Relief, 2020" is an ink on paper artwork measuring 39 2/5 × 29 1/2 inches. Roaja explores the theme of relief distribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting on the disparity between relief givers and receivers. The artwork engages with the concept of hope and envisions a future where relief is a universal right.[12] Joydeb Roaja expresses gratitude for being part of the "Future of Hope" project during the global pandemic. He shares insights into his subject, "The Right to Relief," and reflects on conversations with fellow artists and literary figures, Roaja gained international recognition by this artwork.[13]
