Kabsbep is an recent vegetable dish made by boiling Bitter Gourd (Karela - means bitter gourd in Hindi) , Beans, Butternut squash and Potatoes spiced with chiili, turmeric powder, ginger ,garlic with salt and a dash of vinegar.

The origins of this dish are obscure and it probably originated from the numerous student hostel canteens In Eastern India as a mixed vegetable kind of dish as part of the obligatory  vegetable side dish required by canteen managers to provide with the contracted daily meals . 
The name was given taking the first one or two letters  of the ingredients names .

Kabsbep along with charchari, dim paurutti , tarka and many other are staples in local lingo <local lingo></kolkata>
