Kenneth John Cree (born September 15, 2006) is an English singer-songwriter. He is known for his 2013 single, 1989, which got re-recorded and re-released for the 10 year anniversary of the release. He formed the indie rock band Rough Edges in 2022, which is currently on hiatus. He released his debut album, ONE, in 2022. In 2024, he announced that he is going on hiatus from music citing lack of inspiration and motivation.

History[edit]

After being inspired by the likes of Olly Murs and Bruce Springsteen, Cree started creating music in mid-2013. He uploaded a video on YouTube entitled "1989 by Kenny Cree" to his YouTube channel on April 6th 2013, which would be the release of his debut song. With dreams of creating his first album, he would release another song later that year entitled "I Heart You". Both songs in their original forms have been lost to time.

Later in 2017, he released "Battlefield", a song he made based on the first person shooter series of the same name, this would be the final track that was not written at all by himself, instead improvised on the spot of recording. In 2018, he released "Life is Hard" and "Live Again", two singles that along with the prior mentioned songs, were taken down by Kenny due to the reaction from peers in school.

In 2020, he formed his band Obsidian (at the time known as Flashback) which faded into obscurity due to the band not releasing any music as of 2023. In 2021, he made his first release on major streaming platforms which was his cover EP "The Shanty EP"[1],which released on April 2nd 2021 and which had a sequel EP entitled "The Shanty EP: Side B" released a week later[2] and an album re-release entitled "Sea O' Madness"[3] released May 12th 2021. His first studio album "ONE" was released on January 8th 2022, followed by his second studio album "To Past Me, Goodbye"[4] releasing May 19th 2023.

On October 18th 2023, he released a re-recording of his 2021 single "Broken" under his new alias lightbl0om, turning it into an indie rock track.[5] On Bandcamp, less than a day after the release of the prior mentioned re-recorded single, "0NE"[6], an EP which was a re-recording of the 2022 debut album, was released, which would take all of the 6 original tracks from ONE and completely remake them into the songs he wished he could have made at the time. Along with the release of this EP, he released a cover of "Voices"[7][8] by Motionless in White in which he remade the instrumental using MIDI plugins and his voice. On November 4th 2023, he announced the release of his first original release since To Past Me, Goodbye earlier in the year revealed to be an EP titled Drift[9], which was put up for preorder on Bandcamp that day, to be released on November 24th 2023.

On Feburary 2nd 2024, he released the first single from his final EP before his hiatus announcement on March 13th 2024, "swamp" which was followed by "the pumpkin king" on March 15th 2024, and the EP "Legend Of The Pumpkin King" releases March 22nd 2024. Then on March 13th, Kenny took to his Instagram account to talk about his lack of inspiration and why he feels it's a good idea he takes a break from music, with the final decision coming the next day, as he announced he's taking a break to recharge and work on other projects outside of music.

On April 17th 2024, one month after announcing his break from music, Kenny posted a set of images, announcing his return and the start of the Nowhere & Somewhere era which is the title of his debut album under his name of lightbl0om. He also teased the release of a previously unreleased song from the "All Variations Sessions", which are tracks he wrote for an album which he cancelled called All Variations Advised which was planned as his 3rd studio album under his name of Kenny Cree but later was cancelled in late 2023 due to creative issues and lack of identity for the album.
