Kimmi Ascanio (born January 21, 2008) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for the San Diego Wave of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Born in the United States to Venezuelan parents, she plays internationally for the United States under-17 team. She was signed by the Wave at age 16 in 2024.

Early life[edit]

Ascanio was born in Orlando and raised in Doral, Florida.[2] Her parents were born and raised in Venezuela, her father in Caracas and her mother in Valencia.[3] She played youth soccer for Florida United Soccer Club of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), with which she won two state titles.[2]

Club career[edit]

The San Diego Wave signed Ascanio to a three-year contract in March 2024.[2] She made her professional debut as a second-half substitute against Racing Louisville on April 13.[4] She made her first start and recorded her first assist in a 2–1 win against Bay FC on April 27, making her the third-youngest goal contributor in NWSL history.[5]

International career[edit]

Ascanio has trained with United States national youth teams beginning at the under-15 level in January 2022.[2][6] As the youngest member of the national under-17 squad in February 2024, she scored a hat trick in six minutes in the United States' 7–1 semifinal win against Haiti, and added another goal in the final against Mexico, to help win the 2024 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship.[2][7]
