Dr. Kuruvilla Joseph (Born 20 March 1964) is an Indian Professor, currently holding the positions of Registrar, and Dean at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology[1], has been recognized globally for his contributions, including being listed among the top 2 percent of scientists worldwide by Stanford University, and holds a Ph.D. from the NIIST CSIR (formerly RRL TVM), Thiruvananthapuram, in collaboration with the School of Chemical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, while also completing post-doctoral research at the Federal University of Paraiba, Brazil, and the Swedish Institute of Composites (SICOMP), Sweden, and being honored as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London.

Dr. Kuruvilla Joseph's research focuses on various areas, including Nanomaterials,Nanocomposites[2], Polymer Blends and Composites[3], synthesis of polymers from natural resources, Green materials and bio-composites, aging and degradation, and the development of biosensors[4]. He has an H-index of 58 and an I-10 index of 173, with over 15,129 citations. Dr. Joseph has authored or edited seven academic books published by international publishers, contributed to over 49 book chapters, and served as a speaker at numerous National and International Conferences. Additionally, Dr. Joseph holds three patents and has published over 200 articles in international journals[5]. Notably, his mentorship has led to the successful completion of 20 Ph.D. projects and several Master's projects, further establishing his legacy in academia.

Early life[edit]

Born in Kottayam on March 20, 1964, He completed his schooling at M D Seminary Higher Secondary in Kottayam and St. Jude HS in Mukhathala, Kollam. He completed his pre-degree and Bachelor's degrees at Kuriakose Elias College, Mannanam, Kottayam. Later, in 1989, he pursued an MSc in Chemistry at St. Berchman's College. His academic pursuits culminated with a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Mahatma Gandhi University - School of Chemical Sciences in 1993. Additionally, he earned a B.Ed degree from St. Joseph's College, Mannam.

Experience[edit]

Dr. Kuruvilla Joseph's career has encompassed pivotal roles at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, where he served as an Outstanding Professor and Dean overseeing various departments, including Space Applications (SA), Space Weather (SW), and Operations Research (OR). Additionally, he held positions as a Senior Professor, Head, and Dean of Student Activities at IIST. His academic journey began in 2007 when he assumed the role of Professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry.[6] Prior to his tenure at IIST, Dr. Joseph contributed to education as a Reader at St. Berchmans' College in Changanacherry, Kottayam, and as a Lecturer at ST. Xavier's College in Thumba, Trivandrum, Kerala. e expanded his horizons internationally through impactful research stints as a Visiting Researcher in Sweden and Brazil, a Visiting Scientist in Germany, and a Visiting Researcher Fellow in Sweden. Furthermore, he excelled as a Post Doctoral Fellow at the Materials Engineering Department of the Federal University of Paraiba in Campina Grande, Brazil, and as a Scientist at the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Additionally, he made significant contributions to the scientific community, serving as a Senior Research Fellow (CSIR) at the School of Chemical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, and as a Junior Research Fellow at the Regional Research Laboratory in Trivandrum, Kerala, India.
