History[edit]

LandmarkScout started in 2008 and has been developing ever since. In 2008 LandmarkScout started out with a Google Blogger page. Over the years the blog was tranfered to a WordPress website. The name WW2-Landmarkscout was used at first but changed to LandmarkScout after the switch from Blogger to WordPress in 2013.

Sharing Research[edit]

The World War Two related articles are written and supplemented with unique photo and film material created by the authors. They sporadically use guest writers from all over the world and give a platform for short memoirs on soldiers and civilians who endured the hardship of the Second World War. These personal stories and photographs are provided by family members. There is a detailed map showing locations with objects or museums to explore with visitors information. Most markers are placed in Europe but there are articles in North America, Asia, and Africa. There is a collection section added to the landmarkScout's website with information on aircrafts, armor, small arms, submarines, rockets, trains and more. The photos and movies used with the articles are all self-made by the owners, with a few exceptions. The LandmarkScout logo is the website’s own design and, in addition to the brand name, is also used as a watermark on their photo material.

LandmarkScout's research in public[edit]

In 2017 a book was published on young Dutch forced laborers, these boys took classes on a technical school in Rotterdam and were rounded up by the German forces during the “Grote Razzia” (Eng. The big Razzia) in November 1944. The boys were 16 to 18 years of age when they were transported to Germany. Many years after the war their essays, which they sent to a tutor during their forced time in Germany, were found inside a cupboard in this school.

LandmarkScout interviewed family members and sole survivor to write a book on the subject. They incorporated the young boys' essays in the book. The book is written in Dutch and is named; Na de grote razzia. (Eng. After the great razzia).•[1]

Other authors mention LandmarkScout on subjects like: Adolf Hitlers car[2], Operation Market Garden[3], Operation Overlord[4], Action T4[5], the Waffen SS[6] or the reunification of a family with the Chuchilltank their husband and father fought in.
