Los Angeles Cricket[edit]

Los Angeles Cricket (LAC) is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization dedicated to the promotion and development of Cricket in the Los Angeles community. The organization's mission is to promote and develop the sport of cricket professionally in Los Angeles. LAC aims to provide opportunities for aspiring youth and young adults though academy and league programs.[1]

LAC engages individuals across various age groups through educational programs, tournaments, and community events. The organization's activities are designed to increase the accessibility and enjoyment of cricket, emphasizing sportsmanship, inclusivity, and skill development.

Los Angeles Cricket focuses on nurturing a love for the game among participants, aiming to create a welcoming environment for all skill levels. By offering resources, coaching, and platforms for competition, it strives to advance cricket's profile in the region.

Cricket in the LA 2028 Olympics[edit]

LAC has been a supporter of inclusion of Cricket into Olympics from the forefront. Ever since Cricket has been included in the LA 2028 Olympics, there is noted boost the sport's visibility and participation in the United States, aligning with the organization's goals of expanding cricket's local footprint in Los Angeles.

Despite its widespread global popularity, cricket has not been included in the Olympic program since 1900.[2] The 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the LA28 Organizing Committee recommended the inclusion of cricket, alongside baseball-softball, flag football, lacrosse, and squash as one of five additional sports. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially confirmed cricket's inclusion in the LA28 Olympics during the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai on Monday, October 16th 2023, paving the way for the sport's most popular format T20 Twenty20 to take center stage in Los Angeles in 2028.

In October 2020, USA Cricket expressed its aspiration to have cricket included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles as a long-term objective.[3] In the same year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to support the International Cricket Council's (ICC) efforts to include Twenty20 (T20) cricket in the 2028 Olympics, following discussions with the International Olympic Committee. The move gained momentum with the powerful backing of local bodies including USA Cricket, International Cricket Council, and Los Angeles Cricket. In August 2021, the ICC officially confirmed its intentions to bid for cricket's inclusion in the Olympics, with a focus on the 2028 and 2032 Summer Games.[4]
