Lucid Smog Disorder is a Canadian punk rock band formed in Toronto, Ontario.[2] Founded by lead singer/guitarist Jack Doris, known for their loud, in-your-face attitude, aggressive yet campy punk tunes, and Doris' pessimistic yet hopeful lyrics.

Lucid Smog Disorder has gone through multiple lineup since its inception, with Doris being the continuous member. Their current lineup consists of Doris on guitar and vocals, Tyler MacDonald (of Lime Ricky) on bass and vocals, and Matt Yuyitung on drums. The band released their debut album, Psychedelicacy, in 2021.[3]

History[edit]

Early history (pre-2020)[edit]

While living in Kingston, Ontario, Doris began really focusing on songwriting, penning songs that would eventually end up on Psychedelicacy. The 90's East Bay punk movement, along with a heavy drinking habit, inspired Doris to start his own band without having much luck while in Kingston.

It wasn't until moving back to Toronto in 2020 that the group was able to form with the addition of guitarist Daryn Pancer. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the two of them were able to work on the songs that had already been written and get them record ready.

Psychedelicacy (2021)[edit]

In the spring of 2021, Doris began self-recording Lucid Smog Disorder's debut release, with the first single 'The Walls Talk To Me' being released on May 14, 2021.[4] This single release coincided with the first live performance under their moniker, at the El Mocambo.

From there, the band took the city by storm, creating a strong following a reputation within the Toronto punk rock scene. As the band was getting recognized for their powerful live shows, Jack (and Daryn) worked tirelessly during the days to finish the record.

Psychedelicacy was recorded in its near entirety in Daryn's parents' basement. The recording sessions, fueled by Adderall, black coffee, and cigarettes, took two months to complete alongside the mixing process and the creation of the album artwork. The album was released on November 12, 2021.[5]

The release culminated in a release party at the Bovine Sex Club in Toronto. From there, Lucid Smog Disorder put in countless shows at well-known Toronto venues such as Supermarket, Sneaky Dees, See Scape, The Piston, and Junction City Underground.

Following the success of their debut album, the band opened up for Canadian punk rock icons, Gob, on their Canadian tour in 2022.[6]

Second Album (2023-Present)[edit]

As of 2023, Lucid Smog Disorder is working on their sophmore album.
