  • Comment: Some more work needs to be done to make the draft more neutral in tone. Stick to the facts and remove the puffery as much as possible. The subject is very likely notable as per a quick WP:Before. Kind regards, Spinster300 (talk) 05:19, 18 January 2024 (UTC).

Ludovic Blecher (born 1976) is a French journalist, media executive, and technology entrepreneur. He has held various prominent roles in the media industry, including positions as editor-in-chief and chief digital officer at the French daily newspaper 'Libération'. Blecher served as the head of Innovation and Ecosystem Funding Strategy at the Google News Initiative until 2023.

Blecher co-founded the W School,[1] held a chair in journalism and innovation at the University of Metz[2] and serves on the board of L'Orient-Le Jour.[3]

Career[edit]

Blecher studied history at Sorbonne University and graduated from the École de Journalisme et de Communication de Marseille. He began his career in journalism as a reporter, covering a wide range of topics, from regional affairs to social issues and technology. He was also a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University in 2012-2013.[4]

In September 2013, Blecher took responsibility for managing a €60 million fund aimed at encouraging online innovation within the press,[5] a collaborative venture between Google and the French Press Association of Political and General Information (AIPG).[6] He later joined Google to manage the launch and administration of the Digital News Innovation (DNI) Fund, a €150 million initiative supporting the European press and media sector. This fund was subsequently expanded globally through the Google News Innovation Challenges, reaching over $250 million in grants.[7]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Blecher initiated the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund[8] to support local media organizations. The program provided assistance to over 5,600 media organizations in 115 countries, distributing $39.5 million in funds
