Luke Strachan (born 1 May 2001) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left back for Brechin City, on loan from Cove Rangers.[1]

Career[edit]

Dundee[edit]

After spending his youth career with Peterborough United and a brief loan stint with Stamford, Strachan would join Dundee in 2019, though an enflamed gallbladder which required an operation kept him out for a period of time.[2] He would join on loan with Brechin City in February 2020.[3] His loan would be cut short however due to the oncoming COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the season to be cancelled two weeks later.[4] In July 2021, Strachan would join Scottish League Two side Forfar Athletic on loan.[5] He would be a regular starter at left back for the Loons under Gary Irvine during his season there.

Strachan would make his first competitive appearance for the Dundee first team on 23 September 2022, coming on as a substitute in an away victory over Welsh champions The New Saints in the Scottish Challenge Cup.[6]

On 6 January 2023, Strachan joined Scottish League One club Alloa Athletic on loan until the end of the season.[7] On 31 May 2023, Dundee announced Strachan had not been offered a new contract and would leave the club.[8]

Cove Rangers[edit]

On 6 June 2023, Strachan joined Scottish League One club Cove Rangers on a two-year deal.[9] After suffering an ankle injury early on which required surgery, Strachan would return to former loan club Brechin City for the rest of the season.[10]

Personal life[edit]

Strachan is the grandson of former footballer and manager Gordon Strachan and is the son of Gavin Strachan, themselves both former Dundee players.[11] In a 2021 interview, Strachan insisted that becoming a footballer was his choice despite his famous family name.[2]
