Herbalist M. Salim Khan[edit]

Introduction[edit]

M. Salim Khan is a herbalist, nutritionist and iridologist, particularly excelling in the realm of Tibb Herbal Medicine. With a career spanning over four decades, Khan has become a pivotal figure in Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM), influencing global perspectives on alternative healthcare.

Early Childhood & Schooling[edit]

Born in 1951 in the village of Momanpur, Salim Khan's formative years were immersed in the fertile Chachh Valley along the Indus River. Raised on a family farm, his early life involved organic cultivation, yielding seasonal crops. His educational journey began in the local village school and later led him to the 'Senior Burn Hall School' in Abbottabad.

Training and Qualifications[edit]

Unani Tibb[edit]

Introduced to Tibb in 1970, Khan studied under notable figures like Moulana Nisaar Ahmed, Sayyed Shabeer Hussain, and Hakeem Mohammed Nabi Khan. These mentors significantly influenced his early education and passion for natural health and medicine.

Herbal Medicine and Osteopathy[edit]

Khan trained in herbal medicine and osteopathy with the General Council and Register of Consultant Medical Herbalists (now IRCH). Khan was elected president of the same organisation from 2013 until 2018.

Iridology and Nutrition[edit]

In 1978, while completing clinical training for his diploma in herbal medicine, Khan was introduced to iridology by David Chapman. This journey culminated in attaining a Diploma in Iridology in September 1996 from the ‘School of Iridology and Holistic Healing’. Khan later served as a clinical tutor at the same school.

Guided by Dr. Bernard Jensen, father of American Iridology, Khan's approach to iridology was shaped profoundly. Khan received a certificate of merit in iridology and nutrition in May 1982 from Dr. Jensen.  

Doctor of Medicine[edit]

In 1991, Khan was awarded a degree of Doctor of Medicine - Alternative (Medicina Alternativa) by ‘The Open International University of Complementary Medicine.’

Institutions[edit]

Since 1978, Salim Khan has been associated with the 'Mohsin Health Clinic’ (est. 1978) in Leicester, UK, where he serves as a Medical Herbalist, Nutritionist, and Iridologist. He is also the founding director of the 'College of Medicine and Healing Arts', (est. 2011) Leicester, UK.

Khan is also a fellow - and serves as a president - of the 'Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists (Int.)'. He is also the founding trustee of the 'World Unani Foundation'.  

In 2022 Khan embarked on the 'Revival of Prophetic Medicine' initiative aimed at harnessing the enduring wisdom and legacy of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to address the health challenges of the 21st century.

Khan is the author of several publications, including “Islamic Medicine” (1986)[1], “Islamic Medicine: An Introduction” (2023), and “The Golden Key to Discovering Yourself” (2018).

Presentations and Workshops[edit]

Salim Khan has been actively engaged in conferences, seminars, workshops, and courses related to Unani Tibb, health, and natural medicine in various countries, including India, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, Morocco, the UK, and the USA. Conferences involving governmental institutions include those of Türkiye[2], India[3] [4] [5]and Pakistan[6]. On 11th Feb 2019 Khan was invited to give a keynote presentation at Parliament Quarters (London, UK), titled ‘Unani Tibb for Public Health’.[7]

Media Involvement[edit]

Khan has also contributed to a BBC documentary[8] as well as being interviewed on the Türkiye channel, Diyanet TV.[9] He has been involved in many exhibitions and publications related to traditional medicine and holistic health. He has also been featured in the UK newspapers such as the Leicester Mercury[10] and the Daily Mail[11]. Journals featuring Salim Khan include, Resurgence[12], Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine[13], and Qaumi Sehat of Pakistan[14]. He has also been featured in the Science Museum[15].

Holistic Health Programmes[edit]

Khan initiated several health-related programmes in multiple countries, including Türkiye[16], USA[17], New Zealand[18], Morocco[19] and Spain[20].
