Soft Parade was an alternative rockband from Tilburg, The Netherlands. The band was active from 1989 till 1996.
After working on a repertoire that leaned heavily on 60's pop and rock music for a year, Eric Maas (bass guitar) and Hans Bos (lead vocals/guitar) started Soft Parade in augustus 1990, with Dick Brouwers (hammond organ), Joop Pollet (lead guitar), Edwin Visser (drums), and Marieke Giessen and Sigrid van Woudenberg as backing vocalists. Two weeks later, after passing on a demo to Eurythimics' David A. Stewart at a Spiritual Cowboys concert in their local venue Noorderligt, the two songwriters signed a contract with Stewart's label Anxious Records. In juni 1991 a first EP was released, resulting in modest airplay for the songs Nobody Told You Anything and Cry All Over Me n the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium.
Shortly after, Visser, Giessen and Van Woudenberg were replaced by drummer Pascal Vermeer, Titia van Krieken and Marjolein Kempen who were presented to the public on their first international tour, supporting Spiritual Cowboys. January 1992, Dave Stewart produced the band's debut album Puur, which was released by WEA/EastWest in June of the same year. Without the two female singers or Vermeer, but with drummer Keith Prior, a tour supporting Shakespears Sister in the UK followed. For the Dutch tour, Prior was replaced by Henk Jonkers (Fatal Flowers), who also joined them on a German tour alongsideThe Godfathers.
After EastWest Records took over Anxious Records, the band was let go early 1993. After a two and a half year silence, Maas, Bos & Pollet released their second album, Get Well Soon in October 1995 (Polydor) with Marc Lamb (Claw Boys Claw) on drums. The record got less attention and was not released outside of the Netherlands. After a final tour throughout the Netherlands with Jacques Beljaars (drums) and Paul van Weert (organ/guitar), the band played their final concert May 1996, in Paradox, Tilburg.
