Manuel F. Cabal (December 2, 1910 - 1987) was a Philippine Constabulary General who served as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines from January 1949 to December 1961...[1]. He was appointed by President Carlos P. Garcia vice being the Chief of Philippine Constabulary from 1955 to 1957[2]

Early Life and Education[edit]

Born Manuel Fiel Flores Cabal on December 2, 1910 in Botolan, Zambales to father Macario Cabal and Mercedes Flores. He has two siblings Soledad and Consuelo which grew with. He entered at Philippine Constabulary Academy in 1927 and graduated 2 years later.

Military Career[edit]

He started as detachment commander in 1930. He USAFFE in 1941 and commanded

He was awarded with US Legion of Merit by [3] US Government in 1957.

Post War[edit]

He was assigned commander of I Military Area when HUKBALAHAP rebellion and launched Operation MILAGROSA by far the largest and much complex operation conducted by the Army. Resulting to capturing and top HUK commanders although the Supremo slipped the dragnet[4]

He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1954 and appointed as Chief of Constabulary under President Ramon Magsaysay. He was again promoted to Major General and appointed as Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces on 1956 vice General Alfonso Arellano who was appointed Chief of Staff. When General Arellano applied for early retirement due to health reason, he was promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed as Chief of Staff from 1957 to 1959.

It was in his tenure that President Ramon Magsaysay died due to plane crash. He testified during the senate inquiry about the plane crash and told the body the caused[5]. Retired in 1959 after 3 years after Chief of Staff.

Personal[edit]

He is married to Elisa Cabal and had six children together[6]

Legacy[edit]

PNP Camp in Barreto,Olongapo City in Zambales is named after him, Camp Lt. Gen.Manuel F. Cabal.
