Mark Spalding (born 26 July 1985) is a soccer coach who is currently assistant manager at Memphis 901 FC.[1]

Spalding has been a UEFA Pro Licence holder since 2021.

Coaching career[edit]

Spalding began his career working at Falkirk in 2006 during the club's time in the Scottish Premier League, working in the academy alongside Eddie May and Ross Wilson, before spells at the Scottish FA from 2009 to 2012 and Stirling University from 2012 to 2014 where he reunited with May.

During Spalding's time at Stirling University, the team competed in Scotland's 5th tier, the Lowland Football League. In 2014 the men's team won the University treble, becoming the first and only Scottish team to do so.[2]

In 2014 Spalding moved to Dumbarton in the Scottish Championship as first team coach working under manager Ian Murray and assistant Jack Ross.[3] In this role Spalding was also head coach of the club's U20s team.

Spalding moved with Murray to St Mirren in 2015 assuming the role of assistant manager.[4] Spalding left his post in November 2016.

After a spell in the United States, Spalding reunited with Ross Wilson in a senior position at Rangers in January 2020 as head of intermediate academy.[5]

In January 2023, Spalding moved to USL Championship side Memphis 901 FC to work as assistant coach to Stephen Glass. In their first season at the club, the club reached the Eastern Conference quarter finals, losing to Louisville City FC after finishing 4th in the regular season. In the US Open Cup the team recorded their first win v MLS opposition defeating Atlanta United FC.[6]
