Victor Love, known professionally as Master Boot Record (stylized MASTER BOOT RECORD), is an Italian synth metal artist. He also produces music under the pseudonym Keygen Church, in which he produces organ-heavy synth metal. He has produced 14 albums to date, and has produced an additional 3 under Keygen Church.[3] Love describes Master Boot Record as "100% Synthesized, 100% Dehumanized,"[1] alluding to the fact that his music is entirely synthesized, which he says is done using Cubase[3]. He also developed the story and soundtrack for the point-and-click adventure VirtuaVerse[4], as well as appearing as guest artist for the first person shooter, Ultrakill's, soundtrack[citation needed].
Early Life[edit]
Love was exposed to computers at an early age, as his father ran a computer shop in Rome in the 90s. Before this, his father was involved in computers as a hobbyist, which allowed Love to play with early computers in his cellar.[3] He would later work at his father's shop, and worked as a system administrator for a local university after the shop's closing in the early 2000s.[3][5]
Influence[edit]
Love's influence largely comes from early computer systems and "cracktros,"[5] as well as death and thrash metal music that he listened to as a teenager, such as Metallica and Megadeth.[3]
Keygen Church[edit]
Keygen Church is another of Love's projects, combining Baroque and Romantic inspired music with synth metal. Keygen Church focuses on " a religious view of old technology and the old-school underground computer scene." Love says that the vision behind Keygen is a "church that preserves and protects the ancient codes" and a "cult of the old code."[6]
