Matmut (Mutuelle assurance des travailleurs mutualistes) is a French mutual insurance company headquartered in Rouen.[1]It was founded in 1961[2]. Today it claims four million members.
History[edit]
Matmut was founded on July 7th, 1961 by Paul Bennetot[3]. Originally it only offered vehicle insurance.
In 1968 Matmut begins to offer home insurance and contents insurance.
In 1993, following the retirement of Paul Bennetot, Daniel Havis is appointed the head of Matmut.
In 1996 Matmut begins offering it's members advanced driving courses for free.[4]
In 2009 Matmut, MAIF and MACIF merged under the holding company SFEREN[5][6]. The legal structure is called SGAM Société de Groupe d'Assurance Mutuelle.
As of 2023 the Managing Director is Nicolas Gomart and the chairman is Christophe Bourret. The company has 6,500 employees[7].
