Mayi Ri is a Pakistani television series conceptualised and characters by Sana Fahad, and produced by Fahad Mustafa under banner Big Bang Entertainment. It stars Aina Asif in her first leading role, played a child bride opposite debutant Samar Abbas Jafri. Nauman Ijaz, Maria Wasti, Maya Khan and Sajida Syed appeared in supporting roles. It premiered on ARY Digital on 23 July 2023.[1]

Plot[edit]

Ainne is a 15-year-old school student. She enjoys her daily routine of school and playiyin home. She lives with her mother Ayesha in her uncle Zaheer's house as her father has passed away. Due to some family problems, Zaheer decides to marry her with his son Fakhir. Being a child bride herself, Zaheer's wife Samina opposes it and Ayesha also doesn't want to marry her daughter at such a young age. But patriarchal and conservation Zaheer takes the lead when he succeeds in their marriage. After the marriage, the children faces severely especially Ainne faces issues in her schools which ultimately affects her srudy.[2]

In March 2023, DAWN Images was reported that the series which is tentatively titled Child Marriage is about the child marriages and also revealed the cast members.[4] Young actress Aina Asif played her frist lead role in the series, who shared that she was ecstatic for the drama.[5] Asif played the lead role opposite Samar Abbas Jafri, who made his television debut with this sereis and previously appeared in theater plays like Anwar Maqsood's Pawney 14 August and Sawa 14 August.[6] Hiba Ali Khan and Maya Khan made their comeback by this series.[7] Director Meesam Naqvi told to Arab News that the besides child bride the series will also depict a boy married at young age and leads to several other problems such as educational issues.[8]

Reception[edit]

The series was lauded to portray the issue of child marriage and raising awareness.[9] A reviewer from the Dawn Images criticised the bit of humour and light-hearted jokes that underscores the subject matter.[10]
