Mitchell Dean (Mitchell Dean Polhemus, Mitchell Dean Herman) is a stunt person, screenwriter, producer and director who has worked on major films, television shows, corporate and government projects since 1992[1] He retired from stunt work in 2003 after working on 81 projects [1] Since than he has moved behind the camera, working on corporate and government projects including branding, training, marketing, and interactive. He has still worked on various television and feature projects. Mitchell Dean was born in in 1970, and graduated from Spanish River High School in Boca Raton, FL in 1988.[2] He changed his name legally to Mitchell Dean.
EARLY YEARS[edit]
Mitchell Dean Polhemus was born in White Plains, New York in 1970. He grew up in Yonkers with his Mother Rhonda Polhemus, and Father, Bob Polhemus, a semi-famous musician known as Bobby from the Teemates.[3] After their divorce, Mitchell spent his time going between Yonkers, and Manhattan. His mother would eventually remarry, and he would move to Charlotte, NC, Fort Mill, SC, Sunrise, FL and eventually Boca Raton. His name would become Mitchell Dean Herman after his step-father adopted him.
In Boca Raton, he began attending Spanish River High School in 1984. He was a below average student who would rather be surfing and playing music, than being in class.[2] He graduated in 1988 and moved back to Manhattan, NY where he performed as a session bass player at Edison Studio's until 1989. [4]
Mitchell ended up in Orlando, FL where he took a job at the recently opened Universal Studios Florida, and met Glenn Wilder, the well known Stunt Coordinator. His first project was Passenger 57 with Wesley Snipes where he did utility stunts and was awarded his Screen Actors Guild Card.[5][6] He would also change his name officially/ legally to Mitchell Dean.
CAREER[edit]
Dean's first job was working on Passenger 57 and quickly went on to work on the independent horror film, Vampire Wars.
In the early 90's Dean worked with Jean Claude Van Dam in John Woo's Hard Target, and worked with Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) on Rapid Fire and The Crow. He was actually on-set the day Lee lost his life during filming on this classic.[7]
After working on over 81 films throughout the 1990's, Dean moved behind the camera working with some major production companies in Central Florida. He began working with the Disney Company writing, producing and co-directing an online marketing campaign for their Couture Wedding Collection by David Tutera.[8] He followed that up by developing, co-directing, and writing on a nine-video series project; the Corrosion Comprehension Series, for the United States Department of Defense Office of Corrosion Insite featuring LeVar Burton. [9] [10] [11] He was the head writer, asst. director on Mom's Homeroom, for Kellogg's and Microsoft, which had over 72 million views and was one of the first online shows.[12] [13] Dean went on to work on a smart video game called Protocol 424, an interactive video for the Marine Corps., called Pixel Command, the animated show Robolution, and a learning project called The Corrosion Prevention Action Team Workshop. [14] He also designed, produced, wrote and directed the animated learning project called Hack and Slash for Intel. He wrote, produced and asst. directed for the show 10 Most Corrosive Places in the United States for Discovery. [15]
Dean also produced for Jerico Pictures on two shows, Shadowglade and Country Daze.[16]
His most recent work has been with learning design, writing, producing for the FAA, DOT and Office of Veterans Affairs. He has also sold the feature, Hunter's Gold, as well as the television projects New Rome and an adaptation of Dream Park. He is currently the VP of Production with Jerico Pictures.[17]
PERSONAL LIFE[edit]
Dean married his on again, off again girlfriend, Kelly Ardean Couch, in 2005. They had two children in 2006. Twins, Tyler Joseph Dean and Madalyn Elizabeth Dean. The couple divorced in 2012.[18]
