Mizuki Umetsu (Japanese: 梅津 瑞樹, Hepburn: Umetsu Mizuki, born December 8, 1992) is a Japanese actor. He is from Chiba Prefecture. He was a member of a theater company the Kyoko no Gekidan.

Early life[edit]

  • His parents worked in the arts, so he was surrounded by opera, musicals, and books from an early age.[2]
  • Belongs to middle school&high school and drama club. While attending high school, he appeared in exchange performances between Japan and Korea.[3]
  • While at art preparatory school, studied under Shohei Kawasaki and studied installation art.[4]He majored in the Department of Arts and Letters at the Faculty of Arts. He also takes on spatial challenges, studying media art and three-dimensional sculpture, and exhibiting at school festivals.

Career[edit]

  • When he started job hunting, he resumed acting at the invitation of a friend from my days at the theater club, and in 2015, as a career path after graduating from university, at the suggestion of his mother, he auditioned for the Fictional Theater Company, run by playwright Shoji Kokami. he took it and passed. He became an affiliated actor and made his stage acting debut. After working as a research student, he passed his final step, the One-man show Project,[5][6] and became a full member of the theater company. He belongs to Third Stage entertainment production.[7]
  • As of April 2018, he is affiliated with entertainment production Bamboo.[8]
  • In March 2019, he suddenly gained attention as Yamanbagiri Chōgi in the additional cast of the stage play Touken Ranbu.[9]
2020
In January, he became a monthly personality on Nippon Broadcasting System's "Touken Ranbu 2.5 Radio".[10]
In September, a series of essays started appearing twice in the magazines Continue and Girls Continue. He wanted to turn the writing of novels and screenplays he had been working on in his private life into work, and his work in commercial media culminated in his work.[9]
In October, his 1st photo book Sono Marukibuneno Yukusaki(その丸木舟の行く先) was released. A pre-release reprint has been decided.[11]
2021
In February, he appeared as Futa Osanai in the first installment of Toei Company's One-man show project, Happy End.[12][6]In April, he appeared in the musical Hakuoki Shinkai as the role of Kazue Souma.[13][14] This is his first solo lead role after his one-man show.
In October, he made a regular appearance in the TV drama Aitsuga Kamitede Shimotega Bokude as Mamoru Amano from Amagen.[15]
2022
In April, he made a regular appearance on the Nippon Television mix program Rokunin Yoreba Chōnaikai.[16]
On December 8th, his 30th birthday, he published a essays, Zanki Ichi(残機1) which is a collection of serialized magazine columns and four short stories.[17][18][19] Ranked first in the book-related rankings of 7net and Yahoo! Shopping.[20]
On December 11th, due to the end of Kyoko no Gekidan, he will be active as a member of the same theater company.[21]
2023
On January 23rd, it was decided that the essay collection Zanki Ichi would be reprinted.[22][23][18]
In February, One-man show of Happy Wedding, opened.[24][25][26] He can play multiple characters of all ages and genders.[24][27]
In March, the movie Touken Ranbu : Reimei, in which he played the role of Chōgi Yamanbagiri, was released.[28]
In July, he announced the formation of the theater unit Genshiki, which he will produce.[29][30] Joint project with Shohei Hashimoto.[31][32]
In October, Genshiki's flag-off performance Kainashi began.[33] This is his first screenplay and direction.[34]

Personal life[edit]

  • His special skills are karate and swimming. He also has experience in sword fighting, tennis, basketball, Nunchaku, and Sai. [1]
  • His hobbies are reading, watching movies, camping, and road biking. [1]
  • His nicknames "Ume" and "Ume-chan"etc. When he expresses himself as a content, he often uses the word "Umetsu" in katakana.
  • He likes reading novels, and names Hemingway, Franz Kafka, Kōbō Abe, and Ango Sakaguchi as his favorite authors.[35] In addition, he recalls being familiar with the works of Taijirō Amazawa, Cornelia Funke, and Roald Dahl during his childhood, Franz Kafka and Jorge Luis Borges during his junior high school years, and Masao Kume during his high school years.[36][37]
  • He loves movies so much that he was even described as a cinephile by Makoto Ueda, a scriptwriter for a European drama he worked on.[38] Because he used to frequent Old movie theater Waseda Shochiku,[39] he is also familiar with old films from before he was born. Brazil is one of his favorite film that he watches repeatedly.[40]
  • He is an otaku who also likes anime and games since childhood. His first otaku memory is Gundam SEED.[41]Touken Ranbu and Fate/Grand Order topics appear on Twitter and Niconico.
  • On the Nippon TV program Rokunin Yoribara Chonaikaii, in which he appeared, he played many unique characters, and his unconventional worldview was called "Umetsu World" on the program's official website.[42][43]
  • Like Issey Ogata, he has said that he wants to continue his One-man show project even as he gets older.[12][27][28]
  • He has a pet ferret, and in a magazine interview he said that its presence is a "source of motivation".[44][45][46]
