Draft:Montagne (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Montagne is a french post hardcore band from Paris formed in 2016 by guitarist Luc Jacquin, drummer Lucas Orditz and bassist Arthur Auger. Montagne's massive and emotional musical style made them one of the new band of the european classical post hardcore and post metal scene in the legacy of Cult of Luna and Amenra. After 2020 Montagne's line up consisted of the three former members plus one new guitarist Jefferson Gregoire Bugnot.

Name of the band first refers to the massive and the eternal. It also refers to the left group of the French 1792 Revolution.

The band's lyrics cover topics such radical ecology, end of productivism and anarchist communism. The covers of the band are all made by the Artist Jean-Baptiste Jacquin.

Montagne released 4 EPs which have put a new dynamic into the european scene and a new aesthetic in the metal genre. The band has played shows all around europe.

History[edit]

In 2016 Montagne started to write a first album. During October the band recorded Exorde in a Burgundian vineyard close to Santenay with sound engineer Augustin Pannard. It was then mixed and mastered by Timothée Froger which is also guitarist in the famous parisian band Sorcerer. In April the band released this first album wich leads directly to an european tour in October 2017. Video maker Camille L'héritier followed the band from the beginning and during this tour and made a video documentary about it. American video maker Sunny from Hate5six channel was contacted by Camille about this documentary, he then decided to host it on Hate5six which leads somehow to the band's legitimacy abroad.

In 2018 the band wrote their second EP Spring Birds, it was totally home-recorded but mixed and mastered by Timothé Froger. The band started to put vocals into their music which has lead to their particular style. The band played a lot of shows in 2018/2019. They played at the Post in Paris festival 2018 and tour in Europe from Switzerland to Berlin.

Around 2019 Montagne decided to work on a new EP "Black Waterfall" wich will be the first release of Montagne final form : a strong post hardcore style with old school death-metal influences and modern hardcore influences from Bridge Nine Records years. Producer Lewis Johns known for his work on Svalbard, Palm Reader, Hexis and Conjurer albums accepted to work with the band and mixed and mastered the album. Black Waterfall was released in 2020 but because of Covid Montagne couldn't tour that much after the release. Nevertheless Black Waterfall leads to an international acknowledgement into the particular niche of their music style.

In 2023 the band released "Poudreuse" a short three songs EP which has confirmed the Montagne's aesthetic with strongly political lyrics and gnarly riffs.
