Mortimer C. Merritt (c. 1840 – died December 4, 1931) was an American architect known for his significant contributions to New York architecture.

Early life[edit]

Merrit was born in New York City around 1840.^[1] graduated from the College of the City of New York (now City University of New York) in 1859, receiving a Master's Degree in Science.^[2]

Career[edit]

Merritt established his firm in New York City and was a recognized architect by 1868.^[1] One of his notable works includes the design of the O'Neill Building, completed in 1890.^[3]

Death[edit]

Merritt died on December 4, 1931 at the age of 91. He was City University of New York's oldest living graduate at the time.^[2]
