Newport Racing & Gaming is a historical racing machine (“HRM”) entertainment venue located in Newport, Kentucky, that is owned and operated by Churchill Downs Incorporated.
The 34,000-square-foot gaming establishment originally opened its doors to the public on October 2, 2020, featuring 500 historical racing machines, a simulcast racing area with 24 big-screen TVs, 13 self-serve wagering kiosks and live mutuel tellers, and a sit-down dining venue.
Newport Racing & Gaming underwent construction and the newly expanded venue reopened on November 24, 2021. 150 of the existing historical racing machines were relocated to create a more spacious environment and the build out resulted in two distinct areas, a separate indoor smoking area and the original smoke-free gaming floor.
Kentucky’s current gambling laws only allow for betting on horse racing and there are no traditional casinos in Kentucky. Newport Racing & Gaming features historical racing machines that look and play just like slot machines and are legal under current Kentucky state gambling laws. The betting outcomes are determined by actual horse race results from over 100 years of historical data that is used to form winning combinations with a pari-mutuel formula that determines payouts.
Newport Racing & Gaming is an extension of the racing license associated with Turfway Park Racing & Gaming in nearby Florence, Kentucky. Since opening, the $38.4 million development project[1] has provided approximately 115 permanent jobs. Newport Racing & Gaming is open seven days a week. Visitors must be 21 years of age or older.
