Open Food Network is a global community of people and organizations working together to develop open and shared resources, knowledge, and software to support a better food system.

It was founded in 2012 by Kirsten Larsen and Serenity Hill, two Australian farmers[1].

After gathering local organizations in Australia[2], the community has grown in the United Kingdom with the launch of the Open Food Network UK organization in 2015[3] and since then in several countries such as Canada, the United-States, France[4], India, Brazil.

The Open Food Network software[edit]

The software allows farmers and local shops to organize their online sales and enables them to collaborate with other local actors.

it is published under AGPL3 license.

In January 2024, 218 contributors[5] have contributed to the code base since its launch in 2012.
