Passbolt is an open source software for managing passwords and secrets.[1] It offers users a choice between self-hosting or a managed cloud hosting service.[2] The source code of passbolt is fully open source and available for review. It is distributed under version 3 of the GNU Affero General Public License (AGPL), published by the Free Software Foundation.[3] As an enterprise solution, Passbolt emphasizes collaboration in password management, including features such as password sharing, user groups, access control, and user management.[4] Passbolt uses a challenge-based authentication method to secure user data.[5] Additionally, Passbolt fully complies with the General Data Protection Regulation due to its operation in Luxembourg, part of the EU.[5]

Passbolt is compatible with Docker, Kubernetes, Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Oracle, Fedora, OpenSUSE, Amazon Web Services, Digital Ocean, CentOS, and Raspberry Pi.[3] Chrome, Firefox and Edge browser extensions are also available. The mobile version of Passbolt is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store[6]. Furthermore, Passbolt offers a CLI written in GoLang, and there's a desktop application in development.[7]
