Pennington Research Association - 1984 - 2022 38 Years as an Organized Genealogical Association 1984 - 2022 Written by Gene Pennington, Chairman of the Board and Research Director of the Pennington Research Association, Inc. Our Mission The Pennington Research Association (PRA) was founded for the sole purpose of the collection, preservation, maintenance, and dissemination of materials relating to the genealogical structure of the Pennington Family. We strive to be the most comprehensive source of accurate genealogical information, material and events concerning the Pennington Family. We strive to utilize Internet technology as an informative and educational tool for our members and all other genealogy researchers. Our History We started about 1965 when our founder, Bee Wilson Holmes, began researching her Pennington lineage. Soon she began sharing her research and before long, the first "Pennington Lending Magazine" appeared. The first "magazine" Volume 1 with 3 issues started in October 1968. In 1970 Volume 2 with 3 issues was published. It didn't take long for us to grow and soon a decision was made to create a formal organization. We first agreed to identify ourselves as the Pennington Research Association in 1979 at our meeting in Wichita, Kansas. We decided in 1983 at our meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico to strengthen the organization of the Association by the creation of a set of Bylaws to give a more formal structure to the Association and to delimit its operations. One year later, the Articles of Association were signed on July 28, 1984, at our meeting in Louisville, Kentucky which was our sixth annual meeting of the Pennington Research Association. Then on June 4, 2001, we became a not-for-profit organization incorporated in California. Sadly, the Pennington Research Association, Inc., dissolved itself in January 2022. In keeping with the law, the Board of Directors donated all our assets, cash and digital and paper, to the National Genealogical Society.
