PineTime is a smartwatch produced by Pine64. It features an open-source firmware and is capable of running custom operating systems. It was first unveiled in 2019[1] for developers, and a consumer-ready version was released in 2021.[2]A development kit is still available for purchase for people interested in smartwatch development.[3]
Hardware[edit]
The PineTime has the dimensions 37.5mm x 40mm x 11mm and weighs 38 grams. The watch is made of zinc alloy and plastic. The display panel is 3,3 cm (1.3") IPS capacitive touchscreen, capable of showing 65K RGB colors. It has a 240 x 240 resolution.
It's run by a NORDIC Semiconductor nRF52832 SoC and a 64MHz ARM Cortex-M4F CPU. It has 512KB of internal flash storage and 64KB of RAM, and an additional 4MB of SPI NOR flash storage. The watch includes Bluetooth 5 and the Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity.
It has a built in accelerometer, PPG heart rate sensor and a vibrator. The 170-180mAh LiPo battery can be charged with a 2pin 5V 500mA charging pad.[4]
Software[edit]
The PineTime ships with the open-source InfiniTime firmware and operating system, which is based on FreeRTOS and written in C++.[5][6]InfiniTime comes with different watch faces and features like a stopwatch, alarm, heart rate monitoring, music playback control and some simple games.[7]
InfiniTime can be connected to a phone with different companion apps, which is required for things such as automatic time syncing, firmware updates and notifications.[8]
