Post News - "Real People. Real News. Civil conversations. All humankind(ness) welcome."[3] is a social media, social networking service which functions similarly to a news aggregator with a focus on publishers and creators created by Noam Bardin, former CEO of Waze and VP at Google, and Noel Baron. It launched in November, 2022. Post News has always remained free of paid advertisements, with Noam Bardin once posting[4]

ATTENTION + ADS -> PROFITS + RAGE + POLARIZATION

History[edit]

By November 13, 2022 Post News had commenced closed beta testing via a waitlist[5]. By 30 days later, on December 22, 2022 there were 610,000 potential users on the waitlist with 309,000 of those having received an invitation to join Post News[6]. On January 24, 2023 the waitlist was removed and Post News entered into an open beta testing period.[7]

On February 10, 2023 a new purpose-built user interface called Pulitzer entered beta testing[8] and on February 24, 2023 Pulitzer replaced the earlier version of the Post News launch demo user interface.[9]

The iOS app entered closed beta testing beginning on June 3, 2023[10] and was released to the app store on June 16, 2023.[11]

An Android app beta began on September 13, 2023.[12]

On April 19, 2024 Noam Bardin announced the closing of Post News "within the next few weeks", pending the exploration of "several long-shot options", stating that "at the end of the day our service is not growing fast enough to become a real business or a significant platform. A consumer business, at its core, needs to show rapid consumer adoption and we have not managed to find the right product combination to make it happen."[13]

Features[edit]

Post News describes itself as a place for people to discover, read, watch, discuss and share premium news content without subscriptions or ads. Pay just for what you read (on a per article basis), and help keep independent journalism in business.[14] Earlier descriptions included "a place for people to discover, read, watch, discuss and share premium news content ... discover, follow, share, and support diverse voices on topics you care about and join smart conversations without the toxicity.[15]

Post News includes the following features:

  • Micropayments - publishers, creators and users can set a price in Post points for reading individual posts[16]
  • Tipping - users can tip Post points to creators of posts[16]
  • Users can buy points at the cost of US$0.01 for 1 point[16]
  • Newsletters[17]
  • Posts can be edited for one hour after posting[18]
  • Verified accounts[19]

Operation[edit]

On November 28, 2022, Post News received an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Andreessen Horowitz and Professor Scott Galloway[20]
