About[edit]

Precious Seronga (born November 2nd 1999) is a visual artist, born and raised in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and currently resident in London United Kingdom.[1]

Life and Career[edit]

Precious started to participate in international art exhibitions at the age of nine, winning her 1st prize for a poster depiction of international peace at the age of 9. She went on to showcase her work as a visual artist during her teen years in East Africa. In 2018, she moved to the UK to study her bachelor’s in visual communications at Leeds Arts where she discovered her love for illustration. Combining this with fashion to create original textile prints, she then completed her Masters in Fashion Business at London College of Fashion in 2022. She is now running her brand "Seronga Art" in London as a creative entrepreneur, focusing on combining illustration and fashion to create original prints.[1] [2]

Work[edit]

Precious Seronga creates "Afro Maximalist" prints that celebrate the niche of an aesthetic of excess, women of colour and African textiles. When first exploring illustration as a creative practice, she began with flat fashion illustrations that conveyed African textiles with existing haute couture designs, something rarely seen in the mainstream industry. This developed into her own niche of maximalism with the "afro" aspect being a focus on women of colour and African textiles. The art prints she creates, showcases women of colour in states of opulence and elegance, complimented with the style of maximalism. She is currently developing her practice into original textile prints, with her first collection "The Native Flora of Africa Collection" launched during London Fashion Week Feb 2023, with Fashions finest UK and her second collection "Spices of Zanzibar" dropping in November 2023. The purpose of her work is to celebrate underrated beauties of Africa, and promote positive, self affirming images of women of colour.[1]
