Quinta de Valmarinha is a 32-suite, 18th century farmhouse in the countryside surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sintra – opening 2027.
With studios in both London and Lisbon – reflecting the founders’ dual heritage – architecture and interior design practice, DE ROSEE SA, is delighted to announce its first hotel project, Quinta de Valmarinha, which is set to open in 2027. A former farmhouse originally dating back to the 16th century nestled in vineyards and overlooking the sea, Quinta de Valmarinha sits in the beautiful countryside surrounds of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Sintra, located around 45 minutes from Lisbon, and just a 10-minute walk to the coast. Full planning permission has been granted and work is underway to give this idyllic spot a new lease of life, with a farmhouse hotel that is run with the feel of a family home and welcomes visitors and locals alike.
Restoring the existing structures and details typical of 16th-18th century Portuguese Quintas with the utmost respect for its heritage and resonating with Sintra and its history, the DE ROSEE SA team will bring its holistic design approach and appreciation for materiality to curate, complete and operate its first hotel. Quinta de Valmarinha will incorporate:
• 32 suites • Terrace with views over the Atlantic • Restaurant with courtyard dining • Dining room with open kitchen (available for special events) • Heated outdoor pool with poolside bar and lounge • Dedicated wellness hub with spa, four treatment rooms, gym, yoga studio, sauna, infrared sauna, steam room, cold plunge and indoor heated pool • Five hectares of gardens • DOC Colares vineyard
"The property, once a rundown farm, stands out as one of the few historic properties overlooking the sea in this area. While initially looking for a holiday home, the property's unique charm captured our hearts, leading us to consider a hospitality venture. Encouragement from heritage and tourism departments further solidified our decision. We aim to curate a design beyond aesthetics, focusing on atmosphere and guest interaction while offering an authentic experience immersed in local culture."
– DE ROSEE SA director Max de Rosée
"We see the transition into designing and operating in the hospitality sector as a natural extension of our passion for creating atmospheres and lifestyles through design. Entering the hospitality scene excites us, as it allows us to extend our design philosophy to control not just aesthetics but also the overall experience."
– DE ROSEE SA director Claire Sá
