Rabbi Yehiel Grenimann (known as Jon Green in Australia) has just published "The Partisan's Coat"(1), a sequel to his first novel "Far Away From Where" (2) (see: "farawayfromwhere.com"). He has retired from his position at Rabbis For Human Rights(3) as of 5th March 2018 but remains involved in RHR as a board member (4) and is still active as a speaker and teacher, as well as offering his services as a trained spiritual counselor (C.P.E., chaplain) He played a central role in the recently produced documentary Our Dad The Nazi Killer by director-producer Danny Ben Moshe that appeared on the ABC and BBC television as well as in a number of film festivals in the United Kindgdom, Australia and the USA. He was director of Activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territories for Rabbis for Human Rights from 2006 until 2015, an organization he has also served as Treasurer and Chairperson.
Originally from Melbourne Australia, he is the eldest child of two Polish Holocaust survivors, Boris and Hanna Green (both deceased) of Melbourne. After completing a B.Ecops at Monash University in 1973 he migrated to Israel where he served in the Israeli Defense forces Medical corps, lived on a kibbutz for two years and then settled in Jerusalem.
On completing his MA in Holocaust studies at the Hebrew University's Institute for Contemporary Jewry, and a teaching diploma in the School of Education, he spent ten years in Holocaust education and was Director of the Ot Ve’Ed Institute in Jerusalem, where he focused on teaching teenagers, young adults and educators about Jewish resistance during World War II. Since receiving his rabbinical ordination from the Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies in 1991, he has worked as a rabbi and educator in the Masorti movement. Over the past 30 years he has been active in Peace Now, Oz veShalom, and other peace-oriented groups, as well as interfaith dialogue. A long-time Jerusalem resident, he is married to Deborah, the father of four adult children, Nehama, Neria, Benny and David and grandfather of Yonatan, Noa, Tamar, Lilach, Romi, Yahel and Keren.
