Ragi Jani is an Indian actor who primarily works in the Gujarati film industry and theatre..[1] [2]

Biography[edit]

Born on May 6, 1974, to the esteemed Gujarati dramatist Vinod Jani and Politician [3], Jani grew up surrounded by the vibrant cultural tapestry of Gujarat. His family's deep roots in the world of drama and storytelling laid the foundation for his future endeavours.

At the age of 18, Jani displayed remarkable courage by stepping into the spotlight with his own drama, "Prit Piyu Ne Paneter."[4] This early foray into acting showcased not only his talent but also his determination to carve a niche in the entertainment industry.[5] [6] Transitioning to television, Jani became a familiar face on DD Girnar, captivating audiences with his versatile performances in various TV serials. However, it was his role in the iconic "Ek Dalna Pankhi" that truly marked his breakthrough, earning him widespread recognition and admiration.[7]

In 2016, Ragi Jani took a significant leap into the world of cinema with the critically acclaimed Wrong Side Raju produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Mikhil Musale which won the prestigious 64th National Award for Best Feature Film in Gujarati [8]. Venturing into diverse roles, Ragi Jani enriched Gujarati cinema with his presence in films such as Teacher of the Year (2019 film), Tari Maate Once More, GujjuBhai: Most Wanted, Midnights with Menka, Var Padharavo Saavdhan [9], Bau Na Vichar, Gulaam Chor [10], Short Circuit (2019 film), Sonu Tane Mara Par Bharoso Nai Ke[11] , Popaat [12] and Many more. Each project added a new layer to his artistic repertoire, solidifying his status as a versatile actor[13]

The year 2021 marked a significant chapter in jani's career as he joined the Bollywood industry. His role as Ranveer Singh's uncle in Yash Raj Films's Jayeshbhai Jordaar showcased his ability to seamlessly transition between regional and national cinema [14] . Prior to this, his brief but impactful appearance in Made in China (2019 film) with Rajkumar Rao hinted at the versatility that he brings to every project.

Continuing his successful collaboration with Pratik Gandhi after Wrong Side Raju he starred in the Oho Gujarati's web series Vitthal Teedi directed by Abhishek Jain in 2021. His portrayal of Tribhuvandas Tripathi garnered widespread recognition, showcasing his ability to connect with audiences in the digital realm, for which he won best supporting actor- regional series award at the Indian television streaming awards 2022.[15]

He attended Shree Vidyanagar School and Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya in Ahmedabad. Jani earned his B.Com degree from Shri Sahjanand Arts and Commerce College in Ahmedabad. In 1998, he married Chirag Jani, and together they have a son named Jaldhi Jani. [16]
