Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka[1][2] is an Indian Chemist and Professor at Tezpur University[2]. He has taken the charges of Vice Chancellor of Cotton University, Guwahati[3][4][5][1] as on 16th September 2022. Previously, he had served as the Director, Centre for the Multidisciplinary Research, Tezpur University, (2021-2022)[6], Dean of School of Sciences, Tezpur University (2017-2020) and Head of the Department of Chemical Sciences, Tezpur University (2013-2016). He is also associated with UGC-CARE Journal, East Zone as coordinator[7][8] since 2018.

Early Life and Education[edit]

He completed Bachelor of Science degree in 1991 from prestigious Cotton College and Master of Science degree from Gauhati University in the year 1994. He earned Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Pune (currently known as Savitribai Phule Pune University) working at National Chemical Laboratory, Pune during 1995-1998. After completion of PhD he moved to Japan to carry out post-doctoral research work with Prof. Kimihiko Hirao in the field of electronic structure theory of materials at University of Tokyo, Japan (1999-2001) and later on he was awarded the most prestigious Alexander von Humboldt (AvH)[9] post-doctoral fellowship to continue research work at Technical University of Munich, Germany (2003-2005) with Prof. Notker Rösch in the field of QM/MM studies on TS-1 Zeolites. In the year 2001 he joined at Tezpur University, Assam and involved teaching and research in the field of Physical Chemistry, Quantum Chemistry and Catalysis.
