Rana Saad Makhlouf (Arabic: رنا سعد مخلوف, North Levantine: Arabic pronunciation: [ˈRanaa ˈ Saˈd ˈMakhlouf]; born 10 January 1993), ^[3] also known by the youtube name Arabic with Rana (Arabic: رنا, ^[4] is a Syrian writer, linguist and translator. She is leading a modernist revolution in 2023 for setting rules for teaching Levantine Arabic.

Biography[edit]

Early life and education[edit]

Born to a modest Syrian family in January 1993, Rana hails from the city of Jableh near the city of Latakia in western Syria.

She joined the Syrian University in 2011 (now Tishreen University) to study Physics and English Translation, graduating in 2017 with a BA in Physics & English Translation. She later earned a master's degree in Linguistics in 2019 from Lebanese University.

Name[edit]

The name "Rana" (pronounced Ra-naa) was picked up by Rana's parents, which means in Persian, Arabic, Turkish and Kurdish; the name means "eye-catching, glittering, mesmerising" and "elegant, graceful", stemming from the word yarnū (Arabic: يرنو), meaning "to gaze at longingly". It is a given name for females in Middle Eastern countries.

Personal life[edit]

She has two siblings: Khoder, who is a lawyer; and Zainab, an Arabic professor. Rana has lived in Jableh, Syria and Beirut, Lebanon.

"Learn Levantine Arabic Through Analyzing Feyrouz's Songs" (book)[edit]

Written in 2023, the book speaks about Fairuz songs, where Rana analyses, illustrates and explains the poetic pictures between the lines in Fairuz songs' poems.

Rana started her Youtuber channel where she started a new playlist for subtitled videos, using Transliteration in Arabic and English. She started a new way of a 50% context, 50% literal translation where she uses for education purposes.^[5]

Translations[edit]

Rana is a professional translator. one of her most famous translations is an article written about the Syrian poet Adunis, where she uses a magnificent language in English. The article was written about Rajaa Shahin's book "Why Adunis"^[6]
