The Research Institute for Tactical Autonomy (RITA) is the 15th University Affiliated Research Center formally established in February 1, 2023 by the US United States Department of Defense at Howard University, Washington DC. USA.[1][2][3]. RITA is the first University Affiliated Research Center led by Historically Black College and University (HBCU) [4]

RITA, a consortium UARC led by the Howard University, consists of 8 consortium members Jackson State University, Hampton University, Tuskegee University, Bowie State University, Delaware State University, Florida Memorial University, Norfolk State University and Tougaloo College. RITA provides a national resource for a critical and diverse mass of tactical autonomy  researchers. Prof. Danda B. Rawat, a Computer Scientist and Howard University Engineering Associate Dean for Research, has been serving as a Founding Executive Director and Principle Investigator on the RITA UARC contract.[2][3][5] [6]

RITA UARC is the newest and 15th University Affiliated Research Center by by the United States Department of Defense to provide engineering service to the United States Department of Defense on trust in mission autonomy, collaboration between platforms and human-machine teaming.
