Rhoda Makinde[edit]

Rhoda Makinde born on January 12th, 1979[1] is a US-based Public Health specialist and founder of Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI World)[2], a non-governmental organization dedicated to transforming and empowering women through programmes that focus on making women self-sustainable, participate in politics, regain their sense of pride and become relevant in the society.[3][4]

Early life and education[edit]

Rhoda was born in Lagos State to Pa and Madam Odivbri from Delta State, Nigeria. She attended the famous CMS Girls' Grammar School, Akoka, Bariga, Lagos State[5] and completed her secondary school certificate examination in 1995.

She then proceeded to the Ogun State University, Sagamu (now Olabisi Onabanjo University)[6] where she bagged a Diploma in Applied Biochemistry in January 1997. She was later trained at the Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, Ogun State, and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2005 (MBChB). Due to her interest in Public Health, she completed some certificate courses at Harvard University[7]. He bagged a doctorate degree in public health at the Walden University [8]

Career[edit]

Twenty years ago (2003), Dr. Rhoda Makinde in partnership with her husband, Hon. Abiola Makinde, member house representative, Ondo West and East federal constituency founded Lifeline Health Service Inc. located in Maryland, United States of America. She serves as a Director on the board of the company, the same as in many other organisations both nationally and internationally.

In her quest to transform thousands of women through evidence-based programs, she founded the Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI) in December 2017, an initiative that has successfully executed medical missions in different parts of Ondo State, support indigent female students through scholarships, provide interest-free loans to market women among other interventions.[9][10][11]

In 2019, she was conferred with an honorary doctorate [12] at the Global Oved Dei Seminary and University, Florida, USA for her numerous support to mankind[13].

Dr. Rhoda Makinde was appointed to the Advisory Board of the School of Public Health, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, (UNIMED) Ondo State Nigeria in 2022. She is an ambassador of the AU-ECOSSOC's New Decade of Women’s Financial and Economic Inclusion (2020 - 2030)[14].

Personal Life[edit]

Dr, Rhoda Makinde is married to Hon. (Dr.) Abiola Makinde, honourable member representing Ondo West and East federal constituency in the House of Representatives (Nigeria).
