Draft:Rivendell Mountain Works

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rivendell Mountain Works is a mountaineering equipment company originally formed by Larry Horton and several investors in 1971. It styled itself a "cottage industry," and from 1971 to 1981 sold its products by mail order, which were made in a former church building in Victor, Idaho. Its offerings included the Jensen Pack and Rivendell Bombshelter tent. Don Jensen, a member of the Harvard Mountaineering Club who was noted for his Alaska climbs, was involved in both designs. The late Inez Moulton of Victor, Idaho, assembled most of the tents (about 330 were made). Ownership changed in 1981, and since then the backpack product line has been produced and marketed by Eric Hardee out of a rustic log home built by him and his wife on their forested property in the hills above Monroe, Washington. The "Rivendell Mountain Works" trademark is owned by Middle Earth Enterprises (MEE) and inspired the name of Grant Peterson's Rivendell Bicycle Works.
