Rob Snyder (born October 12, 1992) is an American football coach and former player who is currently serving as the defensive line coach at the University of South Dakota. Snyder is known for teaching “two gap” style of defensive line play, pioneered by Pete Jenkins.

Early years[edit]

Snyder was born in Alliance, Ohio. As a child, he spent time living in Beaufort, South Carolina before moving back to Ohio. He attended Shaker Heights High School, graduating in 2011.[1]

College career[edit]

Snyder attended LSU, where he walked on as a tight end and as a linebacker. He was a one-year letter winner for the Tigers.[1][2]

Coaching career[edit]

Following the conclusion of his playing career, Snyder served as a volunteer assistant at LSU. In June 2015, Snyder was hired as a defensive and special teams analyst where he worked closely with defensive coordinator, Dave Aranda, and special teams coordinator, Bradley Dale Peveto.

Following the dismissal of head coach, Les Miles, and a staff rearrangement, Snyder began working closely with legendary defensive line coach, Pete Jenkins.

After LSU, Snyder served a one year stint at Missouri under head coach Barry Odom. Following the firing of Barry Odom, Snyder returned to New Orleans, where he coordinated defenses at Holy Cross[3] and Jesuit High Schools.

After a successful run in the New Orleans Catholic League, Snyder returned to college football as the defensive line coach at the University of South Dakota.[4][5]

At South Dakota, Snyder assisted in a major turnaround which resulted in a 10-3 season in 2023, making it the most successful season in school history. His defensive line led the country in PBU’s and produced 1 all American, 1 freshman all American, and 3 all conference selections.

Personal life[edit]

Snyder is married to the former Evon O'Brien. They have two rescue dogs, Junior and Chip.
