Roots & Fruits is a British animated children's TV series.[1] The show was produced by Edinburgh-based production company, Plum Films.[2], for BBC children's channel CBeebies, with support from Screen Scotland's Broadcast Content Fund[3]. The show was first broadcast in the UK in October 2022.[4]

Using 2D character animation[5], the series focuses on bringing to life a variety of fruits and vegetables, incorporating fun facts throughout the show with spectacular performances and catchy songs in order to help teach children to recognise and appreciate different fruits and vegetables[6][7]. The tagline for the show is "Your ultimate 5 (minutes) a day"[8].

The show was shortlisted for Best Pre-School Programme at the 2024 Broadcast Awards.[9][10]

  • Grapes - an acrobatic performance, demonstrating the an upside-down pyramid.
  • Banana - reveals a secret in her song that she is actually a berry.
  • Pumpkin - demonstrates his super strength.
  • Cucumber - performs a song about how she is cool under pressure.
  • Orange - performs a tightrope walking act.
  • Corn - sings a song that counts his kernel rows.
  • Plum - performs the Sugar Plum Fairy Bounce.
  • Celery - sings a song about how he grows.
  • Pineapple - performs a magic act demonstrating how to regrow a pineapple from the crown.
  • Raspberry - sings a song about kindness.
  • Tomato - performs a magic act to show off the different colours of tomatoes.
  • Brussels Sprout - performs his song "I'm Mighty".
  • Artichoke - sings a rhyming song.
  • Watermelon - performs a body-drumming act.
  • Carrot - sings a song about being super stylish.
  • Lemon - tells jokes in his comedy performance.
  • Peas - double act that sings about being two peas in a pod.
  • Pepper - performs a bell-ringing act.
  • Parsley - sings her song "Rise Up with Me".
  • Pear - plays multiple instruments in his woodwind performance.
  • Cranberry - sings a song all about how bouncy they are.
  • Coconut - sings his sea shanty "Oh, The Big Waves".
  • Kiwi - it's time for Kiwi to come out from backstage to perform his Kiwi dance.

  • Cabbage - demonstrates his clever mind in a memory performance.
  • Banana - takes to the stage again to reveal another secret - that she can float on water.
  • Avocado - singing a song about how they are different shapes and sizes.
  • Garlic - performs an energetic and strong fitness routine.
  • Asparagus - young asparagus sings in the rain.
  • Okra - musical duo play a song on a giant keyboard.
  • Leek - flying across the stage, Leek, sings about being frost-resilient.
  • Grapefruit - sings a song dedicated to her friends.
  • Chilli Pepper - a bagpipe performance about being hot.
  • Cauliflower - sings her song "Cauliflower Creak".
  • Chicory - sings a song about how she was discovered.
  • Spinach - creates a Mona-Lisa style painting during his artistic performance.
  • Parsnip - performs an escape act.
  • Lychee - sings a song about love.
  • Broccoli - performs a ventriloquist act.
  • Apple - sings Happy Birthday to her great-great-grandad, Apple Tree.
  • Fig - sings a song about being naturally sweet.
  • Mango - demonstrates her abilities in a wish-granting performance.
  • Pak Choi - the host of Roots & Fruits takes to stage to sing about all her different names.

A Festive Special aired in 2023, featuring popular Christmas vegetables Potato, Parsnip, Carrot and Brussels Sprout performing 'Auld Lang Syne'.
