Abstract

This study aimed to predict marital intimacy based on emotion regulation and self-compassion strategies. The main question was whether there is a relationship between intimacy in couples undergoing infertility treatment and emotion regulation and self-compassion strategies. This research was a descriptive and correlational study. The statistical population included all infertile couples who referred to the infertility center in the summer of 2022, and 200 of them were selected as the sample using convenience sampling method. In this study, the MINQ questionnaire for assessing intimacy needs, the CERQ questionnaire for cognitive emotion regulation, and the SCQ questionnaire for self-compassion were used as tools, all of which have good validity and reliability. Finally, regression and correlation models were used to analyze the data, and the findings showed that predicting marital intimacy based on emotion regulation and self-compassion styles was significant. In addition, the components of excessive self-referencing, negative emotion regulation style, and self-compassion had a significant negative relationship with marital intimacy.[6]
