Spacecraft Plasma Interaction Software (SPIS) is a multi-platform open source (GPL-2.0-only) scientific computing software for spacecraft-plasma interactions modelling in 3D. It is used in the assessment of platform-level risks to spacecraft from differential surface charging and internal charging in space, the diagnosis and assessment of scientific (plasma) instrumentation and electrical thrusters, and the study of charging phenomena on dust, moons and other airless bodies.[1]

SPIS includes a 3D electrostatic plasma solver developped in Java based on an unstructured mesh to model detailed (sheath) structures around complex and realistic geometries. Integrating several models (PIC, fluid ,backtracking, others), SPIS is able to handle a large scale of plasma conditions, materials and physics.

With years, SPIS became the de facto European reference tool for spacecraft charging analysis.[2], with a long list of peer-reviewed journal articles associated with it [3][4][5]
