Samuel B. Sterrett (December 1922 – YEAR) was a judge of the United States Tax Court from 1968 to 1988.

Born in Washington, D.C.[1]

Graduated from St. Alban's School, Washington, D.C.; Amherst College A.B., 1947; University of Virginia Law School, LL.B., 1950; and New York University School of Law, LL.M. in Taxation 1959; admitted to the bar, Virginia, 1950; District of Columbia, 1951; law firm of Alvord & Alvord, 1950–55; special attorney in the office of the regional counsel, Internal Revenue Service, New York, 1956–60; law firm of Sullivan, Shea & Kenney, 1960–68; served in the Army in 1943 and in the U.S. Merchant Marine 1943–46; after graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Long Island, sailed as second mate in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans 1945–46; served as municipal consultant to the Office of the Vice President, 1966–68; member of the board of trustees of the Washington Hospital Center 1970— ; first vice president, 1970–78; member of the board of managers of Chevy Chase Village, 1970–74; chairman, 1972–74; member of Washington Cathedral Chapter, 1973– ; Governing Board of St. Albans School 1977— ; member of the Virginia State Bar, and of the Federal, District of Columbia, and American Bar Associations (Section of Taxation of latter two), National Lawyers Club; Beta Theta Pi fraternity; appointed to the United States Tax Court on October 21, 1968, for a term expiring June 1, 1970, to succeed Judge J. Gregory Bruce, retired; reappointed on May 21, 1970, to the United States Tax Court for a 15-year term expiring June 1, 1985.[1]

Sterrett married Jeane McBride, with whom he had two sons, Samuel B. Jr., and Douglas McB.; and one daughter, Robin D.[1]
