Jeong Na-ra (Korean정나라; born December 15, 1978), better known by the stage name Shin Eun-sung (신은성) or New Silver Star (뉴 실버 스타), is a South Korean singer.

1978–2002: Early life[edit]

Shin Eun-sung was born into a family that faced financial instability during her mother's pregnancy with her. Her father's bankruptcy during this time led to a series of life-altering events. Her mother made the decision to relocate with her daughter to a remote rural area where her grandmother resided.

During this difficult time, Shin Eun-sung's older sister passed away. These circumstances subjected Shin Eun-sung's mother to extreme stress, giving birth to Eun-sung prematurely at just 7 months into the pregnancy. As a result of this premature birth, Eun-sung was born with a severe case of asthma, according to Eun-sung this made her grandmother and relatives consider her a 'cursed child' and keep their distance. Her asthma was so severe that she spent more than half of each month in the hospital, and she often collapsed due to breathing difficulties at school.

Due to her father's business failure, the household was in disarray. They couldn't report the death, so she lived for 20 years with her older sister's name, '정나라' (Jeong Na-ra).[1][2]

2003: 'New Silver Star'[edit]

Before making her singing debut, she was preparing for a movie, but she ran away from the director's unreasonable demands in her personal life and ended up in debt as her agency demanded three times the contract fee. Then, she started her career as a singer after being told that she had a good face for it

In 2003, she released her first full-length album "New Silver Star" featuring the title track "Go Away" and the follow-up ballad "Autumn Leaves."

The choreography for the debut song 'Go Away' was performed with the dance team 'Nana School,' who were the dancers for Lee Hyori's '10 Minutes' Thanks to this collaboration, there were many comments that the concept and stage setup were similar to Lee Hyori and Mina.

During the promotions of "Go Away" she received hate comments from netizens for dating Sech Kies member Jang Su-won[3] and accusations of plastic surgery surrounded her, which she admitted to having undergone a nose job. However, she denied any procedures on her lips, saying she had insecurities about her big lips since a young age.[4]

2004: 'Bye Bye'[edit]

In 2004, she began preparations for her second album. This time, the concept shifted towards the Jazz and R&B genre, and the focus was no longer on portraying a sexy image. This change in direction led to some of her fans choosing to leave. She promoted the title track 'Bye Bye' and the track 'Stay'
