Shom Chaterjjee

Somjit Chatterjee, popularly known as - ‘Shom Chaterjjee’ (a name given by Padmashree A. Hariharan-ji after he heard him sing for the first time) is a young talent in the Indian Music Industry.

Early Years & Training

A born Music Person, Shom was trained in his early years by his Grandmother – Smt. Debi Mitra, a popular name in the Bengali Music Scenario in the 1960’s & 1970’s. Music creates Magic in his Voice & his fingers on different Music Instruments. An Alumnus of Presidency College Kolkata, Shom is a well-trained vocalist – groomed under Maestros like Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Ustaad Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab, Shri A. Hariharan, Shri Jagjit Singh, Shri Badal Dhar Choudhury & Pandit Mallar Ghosh.

Shom is a Versatile Musician. He renders different Genres of Music with equal ease – from Semi-Classical to Film Soundtracks. However, Ghazals occupy a special place for him – which has made him popular in different parts of the Country within a very short time span. He continues to perform regularly in India & abroad – as a Soloist, as well as with all the great Maestros already mentioned.

Performance & Travel

Shom is a frequent performer in all major Indian Cities and is invited by Organizers & Corporate Houses to perform for them at places like NCPA Mumbai, NMACC Mumbai, G.D.Birla Sabhaghar Kolkata, Bengal Club Kolkata other renowned auditoriums in Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and abroad.

Shom has traveled to different parts of the world to perform for audiences throughout the globe. He has been to the United States, United Kingdom, Dubai & Abu Dhabi & Bangladesh to name a few.

As A Composer

Shom is also an avid composer. He has composed Ghazals & also directed music for different projects involving Maestros & Legends like Sonu Nigam, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty and so on..

Experience in Teaching Music

Having learnt from various stalwarts in the field of Music, Shom is also a Vocal Trainer who trains & grooms students in Vocal Music. He has a number of students diligently learning from him both in India and abroad.

As A Groomer For Reality Shows

Shom has been associated with grooming a large number of kids & adults for the reality show ‘Dil Hai Hindustani’, right from the audition process, organized by Frames Production House Limited & Telecast On Star Plus. He has also worked as a Music Groomer & Voice Coach for the popular musical show Rising Star - organized by Optimystix Media & aired on Colors HD.
