Solita is an international technology, data and design company founded in Finland. Solita’s service portfolio combines expertise from strategic consulting to service design, software and mobile app development, AI & analytics, cloud and integration services. In 2024, Solita had more than 2,000 employees in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Poland and Switzerland.[1]

History and expansion[edit]

Solita was founded in 1996, and the company has been growing fast, especially during last decade. In 2014, Solita employed 300 employees and today there are already more than 2,000 employees. [1] In 2023, Solita's turnover was circa 230 million euros. Solita’s growth has been mostly organic, but the company has also made acquisitions over the years.

In 2017, Solita acquired a Finnish service design company Palmu. Palmu employed 62 people in Finland.[2]

In April 2018, the international private equity company Apax Digital Fund announced it had acquired the majority of Solita’s shares from Vaaka Partners, a Finnish private equity company[3]

In 2019 Solita acquired the shares in the Ferrologic Group, the digital services consultancy operating in Sweden, Denmark and Belgium. Together with Ferrologic, Solita is a North European leader in data-driven digital transformation and business design.[4] Also, in 2019 Solita acquired a Swedish data consultancy company Sparks. [5]

In 2021, Solita acquired Danish data and analytics company Intellishore.[6]

In April 2022, Solita also announced the acquisition of Danish IT consulting company Commentor A/S, which employed more than 145 people and had a turnover of 15.5 million euros.[7]

At the end of 2023, Solita expanded its activities into the Polish market by acquiring a stake in Future Mind. Founded in 2008, Future Mind employed more than 200 professionals in Poland and had customers in several industries, including retail, fintech, telecom and healthcare.[8]

In the beginning of 2024, Solita expanded its operations to Zürich, Switzerland. The new Swiss office will operate under Solita's Danish brand, but it will focus especially on serving large multinational and pharmaceutical companies.[9]

Organization[edit]

In 2024, Solita employed more than 2,000 people in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and Belgium. Solita has about 660 employee-owners.[1]

The company's head office is located in Tampere and it also operates abroad in Berlin, Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Aalborg, Glostrup, Vejle, Leuven, Gent, Tallinn, Tartu, Stockholm, Malmö, Munich, Warsaw and Zürich. [1]

Solita Group's CEO is Ossi Lindroos. Operations in Finland are led by Timo Honko and in Sweden by Johan Torstensson.[1]

Products and market[edit]

Solita’s service portfolio combines expertise from strategic consulting to service design, software and mobile app development, AI & analytics, cloud, and integration services. Solita serves both private and public sector organizations.[1] For example, Solita’s clients include SSAB, Coxa, Fortum, Kanstrup, Ponsse, Fimea, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Helsinki region transport system (HSL). [10]

In June 2020, Solita won a public tender organized by Finnish institute for health and welfare (THL) for a mobile application tracking corona exposures, which THL used for the prevention of the coronavirus pandemic in Finland. An application called Koronavilkku was released on August 31, 2020.[11]

Solita is also involved in national projects, such as the Self-Care and Digital Value Services (ODA), where Solita and Mediconsult act as the application developer and analytics partner of the Omaolo service. Omaolo is a national digital service that helps people to self-assess need for treatment or service.[12]

Solita has also developed election information system for the Ministry of Justice in Finland.[13]

Solita has been involved in the development of many major data systems also internationally. For example, the company is involved in developing a method for creating synthetic imaging data for brain research in an international Industrial-grade Verification and Validation of Evolving Systems (IVVES) project. The IVVES project is coordinated by Philips of the Netherlands and involves 26 partners from five different countries.[14]

In 2022, Solita was named Microsoft Azure Data, Analytics and AI Partner of the Year for the second year in a row.[15]

In 2023, The Labor Inspectorate of Estonia has awarded Solita as the Good Working Environment of the year. The annual award is given by the Labor Inspectorate of Estonia to recognize companies that have managed to develop a good working environment. The award was presented by Tiit Riisalo, Minister of Economic Affairs and Information Technology in Estonia.[17]

Solita has also been ranked among the 100 best workplaces in Europe by Great Place to Work Institute.[18] In 2023, Solita was named among Finland's 50 most attractive employers in Young Professional Attraction Index 2023 published by Academic Work. Solita was the 10th attractive employer among the Finnish students. [19]

Solita organizes Solita Academy 1-2 times a year for people wanting to change their careers, newly graduated or people in the final stages of their studies. In Solita Academy, one can get an in-depth introduction to, for example, data and software development.[5]

In 2022, Solita’s CEO Ossi Lindroos was named among Top 100 IT influencers in Finland by Tivi, the Finnish leading ICT magazine.[20]
