One source is a forum, which you can't use on Wikipedia, while the other two don't provide signifcant information. Gorden 2211 (talk) 00:15, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: The sources are all primary sources from the current owners of the locomotive, some of which advertise its presence at the museum. Any article about this particular locomotive needs to summarize what independent reliable sources say about it, showing how it is notable. 331dot (talk) 07:08, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Southern Pacific 4426 (also known as Nevada Northern 204) is an EMD SD9E diesel locomotive that was originally built in February 1956 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division originally for the Southern Pacific Transportation Company.[1][2]

History[edit]

Revenue service[edit]

#4426 was manufactured in February 1956 by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and it arrived the Southern Pacific Transportation Company that same year in 1956.[1]

Upon being delivered to the Southern Pacific in 1956, it had began its life as Southern Pacific SD9 #5468 but would be renumbered to #3942 in 1965.[1]

In 1977, the Southern Pacific Transportation Company had rebuilt the #3942 into what had became #4426 at their own Sacramento Shops after they introduced their General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (G.R.I.P) process.[1]

Retirement and preservation[edit]

Southern Pacific 4426 (now Nevada Northern 204) with Nevada Northern 40, ALCO RS-3 locomotives #105 and #109.

After running for a total of thirty years of service on the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, on September 18th, 1995,[1][3] Southern Pacific SD9E #4426 was officially retired from active service on the Southern Pacific Transportation Company and it was delivered to Progress Rail on February 10th, 1996.[1][3]

Southern Pacific SD9E #4426 would eventually be donated to the BHP-Nevada Railroad (later the Nevada Northern Railway Museum) where it was renumbered by the museum as #204.[2][4]

It is operational at the museum to this day where it is occasionally pulling passenger trains run by the museum.[2]
