Sports Ground Development is a Peterborough-based company specializing in sports ground solutions, with a history spanning over a decade. Established in 2013, the company has successfully assisted over 300 clubs, achieving a notable 60% repeat customer rate.

History[edit]

Since its inception, Sports Ground Development has collaborated with prominent organizations such as the Football Association and the Football Foundation, contributing to the creation of purposeful structures in an ever-evolving sports landscape.[1] In 2022 Sports Ground Development were invited by the Football Association to review the changes being made to the Ground Grading criteria in England, and many of its recommendations were incorporated into the final version.

Founder and Managing Director Tom Cooper, a sports enthusiast with an extensive background in Non-League Football, initiated the company after recognizing a gap in specialized one-stop shop services within the field of ground development. Using his experience as Chairman of Peterborough Sports, whilst at Step 8 of the National Game System, Cooper identified the need for comprehensive solutions and took charge of the redevelopment of the PSL ground, transforming it into a modern facility by the end of 2013.[2] This development has continued since then with the club promoted to National League North at Step 2 in 2022.

Operations[edit]

Sports Ground Development offers a diverse range of services, working closely with clients at every step to bring their visions to life.[3] The company is certified to conduct Lux Readings on Floodlights. With a commitment to high standards, the company manufactures various structures, including covered standing and seating areas, changing rooms, disabled facilities, dugouts, pitch barriers, ball stop netting, floodlighting, hospitality suites, and more. The product range also extends to walkways, ball stop netting, pitch barriers, and gates, as well as turnstiles and LED scoreboards.[4]

Emphasizing collaboration, Sports Ground Development engages in shared cost and profit arrangements with local companies in Peterborough. It manufacturers its own exclusive range of products at its partnership factory just outside Peterborough in Stilton. The company has also established partnerships with carefully vetted external contractors from the UK, the USA, Ireland, and Asia, offering clients exclusive rates through bulk-purchasing power and market expertise. Sports Ground Development has sponsored the Len Cordell Memorial Cup & Trophy Competitions, reinforcing its commitment to supporting and enhancing sports experiences.[3]

Since 2021 Sports Ground Development has been the authorized partner for Lux Readings with the United Counties League and off the back of that arrangement, became the sponsor of the United Counties League Cup.

Also in 2021 the company ran a competition in the Non-League Paper to provide a club with set of LED Floodlights to replace their metal halide versions. Over 60 entries were received and Warrington Town were the lucky winners of the competition, with a set of lights that are far superior then what was in place previously. The company continues to partner with the Non-League paper, including periodical full back-page advertising.[5]
