Development[edit]

In mid January 2022, Suriya, during an interview, confirmed that he would reunite with Sudha Kongara, after previously working together for the critically acclaimed film Soorarai Pottru (2020), for her next directional.[1] In early April, Sudha stated that the film would be a biopic film and an adaptation from true stories.[2] Talks for the film were on hold as Suriya was busy filming for Kanguva.[3] In July 2023, G. V. Prakash Kumar confirmed himself composing the scores for the film.[4] A public announcement from the producers was reported to be made on 23 July, on the occasion of Suriya's birthday;[5] However, the announcement was not made. The public announcement was instead made on 26 October by 2D Entertainment, which is producing the film in association with Meenakshi Cinemas.[6][7] The film marks as Prakash's 100th film as a music composer.[8] A few days later, Jomon T. John was announced handling the cinematography.[9]

Casting[edit]

Suriya was reported to go down in weight for his character in the film.[10] In July 2022, it was reported that the makers had approached Dulquer Salmaan for a key role in the film,[11] and was confirmed in July 2023.[12] In early September, Nazriya Nazim was reportedly approached to play the lead actress role alongside Suriya in the film. The film would mark as her first Tamil film after Thirumanam Enum Nikkah (2014).[13] The same month, Vijay Varma, Ajay Devgn and Aditi Shankar were reported to be a part of the cast. Varma was reported to play the lead antagonist role.[14] Madhavan, who acted with Suriya in Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004), was reported to reunite with him, playing a key role.[15] Nazriya and Varma were confirmed being a part of the cast in October.[16]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography was reported to commence in December 2023, but did not as so.[17]

Music[edit]

The music and background score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his 100th film as a music composer and in his second collaboration with Suriya and Sudha after Soorarai Pottru.[18] Prakash, via Twitter, revealed that first recording began on 1 January 2024 for a song with Dhee as the lead singer.[19]
