Takura Shonhai popularly known as Takura is an award winning Zimbabwean musician.[1][2]

Career background[edit]

Takura Shonhai was born in Masvingo and grew up in Kingsdale, Bulawayo and later moved to Gweru before relocating to Harare.[3]

He started his music career with an RnB group called Soul Afrika which he established in 2013 while he was stayin in Gweru with his friend Donald Mapholisa who then quit music for personal reasons. Takura moved to the capital city Harare and Adrian Tate joined the group. The group released several songs that include Handidi, Pauri, Gule Kwete, Zvinhu, Newe and an album titled “Ndimi Dzerudo”. The group disbanded after the release of their album in 2016.[4]

Takura launched his solo career in 2016 after disbanding from Soul Afrika. His first solo project was an EP album called Stripped which made waves by hit singles “Zino Irema” and MaObama, Zino Irema topped charts across all major radio stations in Zimbabwe. In that same year, Takura was listed by a South African HipHop magazine as one of the Top 10 African rappers.
